Years of invoices, party balances and stock records sit inside your Vyapar account. Phones get lost and computers crash, so a backup is the cheapest insurance you can buy. In Vyapar it takes a minute.
Take a backup
Vyapar’s year-end guide gives the menu path: Main Menu, then Sync, Share & Back-up, then Back-up to Drive/Computer. Pick Google Drive to keep a copy online, or your computer to keep a file you can copy to a pen drive.
We would do both now and then. Drive protects you if the computer dies; a local file protects you if you ever lose access to that Google account.
Auto backup
Vyapar’s feature list says your data can be uploaded to your Google Drive account on a regular basis. Turn it on and check once in a while that the latest backup date is recent. An auto backup that silently stopped in March is not much use in October.
When to take a backup for sure
- before you change your phone or computer
- before a big app update
- before closing the financial year (Vyapar recommends it, and once the year is closed you cannot make back-dated entries)
- before you delete a lot of old entries
Getting your data back
A backup is a file you restore into Vyapar. Vyapar’s FAQ describes this for previous-year data: the backup created when you close books is saved to your device or Google Drive, and you restore that file to see the old data. If you are restoring onto a new device for the first time and something looks wrong, stop and call support before you enter new bills. Our customer care guide has the numbers.
Backup and sync are different
Paid plans can sync your data between phone and computer. Sync keeps two devices matching; it is not a copy from last week that you can go back to. If you delete something by mistake, sync deletes it everywhere. Keep taking backups even if you use sync. More on that in our offline and sync guide.
