How to Create a GST Invoice in Vyapar: Step by Step

admin2 min read

Making a GST invoice in Vyapar takes a few clicks once the basics are set up. This guide follows Vyapar’s own desktop steps: first a one-time setup, then the invoice itself.

One-time setup

  1. Turn on GST: click the gear icon (Settings) in the left menu, open Taxes & GST, and tick GST. Turn on the HSN/SAC code option too if you use it.
  2. Add your business details: click your business name at the bottom left and enter your GSTIN, state, PIN code and address.
  3. Set tax rates on items: make sure every product or service is saved with the GST rate that applies to it.
  4. Check your customers: in Parties, double-click each business customer and check their GSTIN and state.

The state matters: Vyapar uses it to decide which tax to apply.

Create the invoice

  1. Click + Add Sale, or open Sale from the left menu.
  2. Choose the customer. For a B2B sale, pick one with the correct GSTIN and state.
  3. To show HSN/SAC, discount and GST columns, click + at the top right of the item table and tick them.
  4. Click Add Items and choose your products. Vyapar fills in each item’s GST rate and HSN code.
  5. Check the tax: Vyapar applies CGST and SGST for a sale within your state, or IGST for a sale to another state, based on the Place of Supply.
  6. Add any extra charges, check the total, and click Save.
  7. Click Print for a paper copy, or Share to send it on WhatsApp or email.

Common mistakes

  • Wrong tax type: usually the customer’s state is missing or wrong in Parties.
  • No GST on an item: the item was saved without a tax rate. Edit the item and add it.
  • GSTIN missing on the invoice: add it in your business details.

Free or paid?

You can make invoices on the free app. The paid plans add things like removing the Vyapar advertisement from invoices and detailed GST reports.
