Vyapar vs Tally: Which Is Better for a Small Business?

If you run a small shop or trading business, you have probably heard of both Vyapar and Tally. Both handle GST billing and accounting, but they approach it very differently. Here is a plain comparison to help you choose.

The short answer

Vyapar is built for small business owners who want to make bills, track stock and payments, and see simple reports, often from a phone. TallyPrime is full accounting software, used widely by accountants and by businesses with more complex books. Many small businesses use Vyapar day to day and share data with an accountant who uses Tally.

How you pay

  • Vyapar: a subscription for 1 or 3 years. During the sale on 24 September 2026, 1-year Gold for Desktop + Mobile was ₹4,319.10 plus GST. See our Vyapar price guide.
  • TallyPrime: a one-time licence. Published prices are ₹22,500 for Silver (one user) and ₹67,500 for Gold (multiple users), plus 18% GST, according to ERP Research. A yearly Tally Software Services (TSS) renewal is needed for updates such as GST changes. Tally also offers rental options.

So Vyapar costs less to start, while Tally is a larger payment up front. Always check both companies’ current prices before you buy.

Devices

  • Vyapar: mobile apps for Android and iPhone, plus desktop software for Windows. Vyapar says it also works on Mac and supports offline billing that syncs later. With a Desktop + Mobile plan you can use both.
  • TallyPrime: desktop software installed on a Windows computer.

Ease of use

Vyapar is designed for owners without an accounting background: you add a sale, pick items, and the app fills in the GST. Tally is powerful but expects some accounting knowledge, and many businesses rely on an accountant or trained staff to run it.

Working together

You do not always have to choose one. Vyapar’s Gold plan can export your data to Tally, so you can bill in Vyapar and hand the books to an accountant who uses Tally. Silver does not include Tally export.

Which one should you pick?

  • Choose Vyapar if you want quick billing on your phone and computer, stock and payment tracking, and a low yearly cost.
  • Choose TallyPrime if you need full-scale accounting, several users working in the books, or your accountant insists on Tally.
  • Use both if you like Vyapar for daily billing but your accountant works in Tally: pick Vyapar Gold for the Tally export.
